What is hypnosis? How does hypnosis work?

Our mind works on two levels, a conscious and a subconscious, or outer and inner state of mind. Our conscious mind takes care of day-to-day business, such as making decisions, performing physical activities, and solving problems. Our subconscious mind, on the other hand, handles bodily functions without our conscious decision. It regulates our heart rate, respiration, the blinking of our eyes, feeling of pain, and all of our habits. It is the subconscious mind that comes into play during hypnosis.

During hypnosis, a person’s conscious mind is somewhat subdued, not asleep but merely less interested in what is happening. This allows the subconscious mind to become more active. As a hypnotist talks to a hypnotized person, the subconscious mind more readily accepts what it is told and governs the body accordingly. One very important factor of the subconscious mind is that it is totally objective. If the subconscious mind chooses to accept a particular suggestion, it is done uncritically, as fact, without any clouding or emotion affecting its outcome.

In simple terms, hypnosis is merely a state of increased suggestibility, a state in which we are more likely to accept the suggestions of another person. While all that we learn eventually reaches the subconscious mind, the hypnotic state is a more direct and effective way of changing a habit and reaching a goal. A suggestion, once received and accepted by the subconscious, is automatically and uncritically acted upon, as long as it remains in effect.

Is hypnosis safe?

Yes, hypnosis is safe. A common misperception is that under hypnosis a person will do anything a hypnotist says, good or bad. This is false. Under hypnosis, a client will not do anything that is against his/her principles. The client has the power accept any appropriate suggestion and reject any inappropriate suggestion he/she given. A hypnotized person is always in complete control.

There are five points to remember about hypnosis.

A person will not go into hypnotic state unless he/she willingly agrees.
A person will not do anything in the hypnotic state unless he/she willingly agrees.
A person will not stay in the hypnotic state if he/she no longer wants to be hypnotized.
A person in the hypnotic state is in complete control at all times

On your website, you frequently refer to self-hypnosis. What is the difference between hypnosis and self-hypnosis?

The difference between hypnosis and self-hypnosis is that hypnosis is induced by a hypnotist and self-hypnosis is induced by the self. Our experienced and professional hypnotists induce all of our hypnosis sessions, while at the same time, teach our clients how to perform self hypnosis. This ensures that our clients achieve results and also understand how to maintain their results. One more note on self-hypnosis: during hypnosis, the client has the power to accept any appropriate suggestions and reject any inappropriate suggestion he/she is given. The use of hypnosis is virtually unlimited in nature. Hypnosis is most commonly used (with great results) for weight loss, smoking, and stress & anxiety. Hypnosis is also used for issues including alcoholism, drug addictions, insomnia, migraine headaches, pain control, sexual problems, nail-biting, thumb sucking, bed wetting, phobias and various psychological problems such as depression and compulsion. Hypnosis can help develop memory and increase concentration. It can improve such things as study habits, self-confidence and athletic skills. Presently, hypnosis is being used effectively in many different settings, including medical, dental and legal areas. Every day, new and innovative uses are being discovered by creative practitioners.

Yes. An initial consultation is required for our hypnotists to determine if self-hypnosis will be an appropriate approach for you. We only accept clients who we believe will be successful in our program.

What happens during the initial consultation?

During the consultation, you will discover the patterns, habits, and belief structures that are preventing you from achieving success and living life fully. Also during the consultation, your hypnotist will assess if self-hypnosis will be an appropriate approach for you. If your hypnotist believes you will achieve success with self-hypnosis, they will design a custom program to fit your unique needs.

How long is the initial consultation?

Please plan for the initial consultation to last 30-45 minutes.

Do I need to prepare anything for my initial consultation?

You do not need to prepare anything for your initial consultation; however, we do ask that you refrain from caffeine two hours prior to your consultation.

We also recommend that you find a quiet, peaceful place where you will be undisturbed for your session, wear comfortable clothes, and sit on a comfortable recliner chair or sofa. What if I missed my consultation appointment?

You will not be issued a refund if you miss your consultation appointment. You can schedule a new consultation appointment for the standard fee of $17.

How do I begin a self-hypnosis program?

Prior to starting your self-hypnosis program, we require an initial consultation with you to determine if self-hypnosis will be an appropriate approach for you. We only accept clients who we believe will be successful in our program.

What happens during the self-hypnosis sessions?

Just as your self-hypnosis program is unique, so are each of your sessions. We have given a general outline of a session below.

At the beginning of the session, you will discuss your current state and the progress you have been making. Based on this discussion, your hypnotist will select the appropriate technique for your session, which may include hypnosis, neuro linguistic programming (NLP), mindfulness, ho’oponopono or a combination of techniques.

Your hypnotist will induce you into a hypnotic state where you feel completely relaxed and naturally in control. In this state, your conscious mind is subdued allowing your experienced and professional hypnotist to work with your subconscious mind where the majority of your patterns, habits, and belief systems are stored. This state is completely safe, comfortable, and creates positive breakthroughs

At the end of the session, you will feel relaxed, as if you slept for several hours. After coming out of this relaxed state, you will have a spring-fever feeling toward achieving your goal, and your goal will look, sound, and feel achievable.

How long is each session?

Plan for each session to run for 45 minutes- 1 hour, unless otherwise specified by your hypnotist.

How much does each session cost? How much does the program cost?

We do not charge for individual sessions, rather, our pricing structure is based on an entire program of sessions. We want you to successfully complete the entire program. Our self-hypnosis programs are unique to each client, so we do not have a standard price. An initial consultation is required for us to be able to quote a price for your program. As this confuses many clients, we like to give the following analogy: When you call the mechanic to fix an issue on your car, you can explain your issue to the mechanic, but the mechanic will not be able to give you a price until he or she is actually able to inspect your car. Upon inspection, the mechanic will quote you a price based on what he or she feels needs to be done to return your car to perfect condition. Like the mechanic, our hypnotists need to meet with you to understand your current state, the challenges you are facing, and the goals of your hypnosis program. What if I missed my session?

If you missed your session, reschedule your session as soon as possible and continue to work on any “assignments” your hypnotist has give you for the week. You will not receive a refund for missing a session. Be committed to succeeding and being free of what has been keeping you stuck and trapped. 50% of your success is showing up. We have set aside the time for you and often we are booked weeks in advance especially for certain times of the day.
